It’s March break for students in Nova Scotia, and it promises to be an extended one.
The provincial government says public schools will be closed for at least two weeks following March Break.
The closure is part of further measures announced Sunday to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
The province will re-assess after the week of March 30th.
The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education says learning supports for students in self-isolation will be announced soon.
Premier Stephen McNeil addressed parents of students during the webcast, saying the closure could potentially be extended.
“My message to them is if we don’t feel comfortable with opening schools this will be extended,” he explained. “Our number one priority will be the public safety and the health and safety of Nova Scotians and the children.”
The closures also affect regulated child care centres, which are slated to be closed from March 17 (tomorrow) to April 3, to be reassessed afterwards.
March break camps have been cancelled as well.
