
Atom B Mariners celebrate their gold medal win
*In Maritime Hockey League Action, South Shore downed Valley 6-2.
The Lumberjacks special teams made the difference, converting three of four powerplays.
Dylan Coffey scored two even-strength goals.
Morgan Kini turned aside 22 shots for the win.
The team remains in fifth place in the Eastlink South Division.
Capitalizing on power play chances also made the difference in the matchup between Pictou County and Grand Falls.
The Crushers dismantled the Rapids 9-1, with the Pictou County squad going four-for-eight with the man advantage.
Evan Gallant notched three goals, while Samuel LeBlanc notched a goal and three assists.
Pictou County and Truro are tied with 56 points in the Eastlink South Division.
The Yarmouth Mariners continue to hold the division lead with 62 points, three better than second-place Amherst.
*The Yarmouth Sweeny’s Funeral Home Atom B Mariners co-hosted the 2nd Annual Mariners Classic Tournament this weekend.
After going 3-1 in round robin, the team faced Chester in the semi-finals where they defeated Chester 10-6. They then went on to the championship game vs Clare/Digby where they won gold with a 5-4 victory.
*Yarmouth Pink Star Barro Atom A faced South Shore in a bid to secure a spot at next weekend’s Day of Champions.
Yarmouth came out on top with a 4-3 win.
Parker LeBlanc notched a hat trick with Brody Symonds netting a goal, assists from Jake Sanford, Dylan Scott, Jesse Churchill, and Carl Landry.
Jarriyn Maxwell and Austin Stoddard got the win in nets.
*Clare Loups senior boys hockey placed 3rd at regionals in Middleton over the weekend.
The team will be attending provincials next weekend in Eastern Shore.
*Yarmouth High Boys Junior Varsity Basketball Team competed at the provincials over the weekend.
Game one saw the Vikings fall 91-77 to Auburn High, Cole Comeau led scoring for the Vikings with 21 points.
Their second matchup was a 59-56 win over Memorial, Brady Goudey poured in 20 points, with Jesse Abutu picking up 13.
The team fell 76-67 to Riverview in the consolation game, David Ihidero picked up 16 points with 15 points credited to Brady Goudey.
The Vikings finished their league standings with a record of 5-and-1 record, good enough for a 2nd place finish.
