Two fire departments responded to a fire early this morning on highway 330 in Centreville, Cape Sable Island.
Chief Walter Scott says the Island and Barrington Passage Fire Department was joined by the Barrington/Port Latour and Shag Harbour/Woods Harbour Departments as they fought the fire for about four hours after getting the call at about 3:30 am.
“We got there, we had fire out the lee side, and heavy smoke. The fire was in an older home with a little construction, hard to get at, kinda cut up.”
He says the weather conditions were good for the firefighters.
“We worked at that for probably four, four and a half, hours before we got it completely extinguished. The weather was calm, a little cool but it was really quite good conditions for that to help try to control the fire better. The fire has been deemed ‘out’ and turned back over to the homeowner.”
The cause is under investigation.
