The 18th anniversary of 9/11 is coming up next week.
A Fallen Firefighters Memorial service will be held this (Sunday Sept. 8) at a memorial located in front of the Yarmouth Fire Station on Pleasant Street.
Since 2002, firefighters in this region have paid tribute to firefighters who died as a result of the deadly attacks in the U-S. The service was then expanded to include all first responders who died in the line of duty
Yarmouth Fire Department Fire Prevention Officer Stewart Deveau says the service is simple but poignant.
“At approximately 9: 50 a.m. the members march out to the monument and the ceremony begins with the playing of the Canadian and American national anthem, opening prayer and laying of wreaths.”
Firefighters from across the region are invited to take part and the public is encouraged to attend.
