There is no doubt that Hurricane Dorian’s affects will be felt here in south western Nova Scotia and along the South Shore.
But it”s not yet known how strong the winds will be and how much rain will fall.
Environment Canada has issued a Tropical Cyclone Statement.
It says Dorian will move into Atlantic Canada this weekend as either a Category 1 Hurricane or a strong Tropical Storm.
Meteorologist Ian Hubbard of the Canadian Hurricane Centre says they don’t have an exact track at this point.
“Where it’s four days out, track errors are still quite a bit in terms of distances to where the actual centre of the storm may go. It’s important to note that with these types of storms that rain and strong winds certainly don’t happen ust at the storm centre track, but can happen over a larger area, so that’s one of the things that we’ll be forecasting as well regardless of how close to Nova Scotia it may track.”
He says they’ll have a much better idea Thursday morning and our newsroom will keep you updated.
As of 12:10 p.m. Dorian is currently a category 2 hurricane off the Florida coast having left behind devastation and death in the Bahamas, where it peaked at category 5.
