The new section of highway from Digby to Marshalltown officially opened this week.
The project includes 4 kilometres of controlled access highway from Exit 26 to Marshalltown, a new interchange into Digby and a new multi-trail bridge over the highway in Conway that opened in September 2018.
Warden Jimmy MacAlpine says it has addressed serious lone-standing safety issues.
“Especially for those living in he corridor from Marshalltown to Weymouth North. It’s a good first-step to getting the road finished. There’s been some bad accidents on that road, even this summer.
On the downside, he says it is unfortunate that most businesses that are on the road from Digby to Weymouth are in that first phase will now be by-passed.
“They’re going to see a negative impact and some could see a downturn in business. But from a safety perspective, i feel its important to have the road completed.”
