Some much needed rain could soon be on the way for Nova Scotia.
Tropical Depression Six formed off the Carolina coast Monday and is expected to become Tropical Storm Erin later today.
It would be the fifth named storm of the 2019 hurricane season.
Jeremy March with the Canadian Hurricane Centre says the system is tracking towards Southwest Nova Scotia late Thursday into Friday.
“What that means right now, potentially, is fairly heavy rainfall. Things can change but anywhere from Yarmouth to Bridgewater and up to Cape Breton, somebody is going to get a lot of rain but right now, we don’t know where.”
March says at this time, strong winds will likely join the system but it shouldn’t reach gusts higher than 80 km/h.
He says because the storm is still days away from the region, the impact for Nova Scotia can only be generalized at this time.
“We could be looking at some areas potentially up to 100 millimeters of rain and again trying to pinpoint where that’s going to happen right now is pretty much impossible.”
