The Yarmouth and Area Chamber of Commerce (YACC) has completed the application process.
The successful applicant will be responsible for assisting in recruiting and retaining medical professionals within the Yarmouth region.
They will work with a special committee, stakeholders and the Nova Scotia Health Authority. The jobs requires a sound knowledge of the region and the Community Navigator will help newcomers feel welcome.
Rick Allwright, the executive director of the YACC, says physician recruitment isn’t something that other chambers of commerce normally take on and it’s been a full-time job for some of the Chambers’ volunteers
“That’s a huge thing. Actually of chambers are actually coming to us now and asking us about doing it. It’s such a key thing. If you don’t have doctors you can’t attract doctors. Doctors are businesses. Each doctor is a business owner.”
He says they’ve already met with many medical professionals about coming to the area.
Allwright says for doctors they talked to, it’s not about the money, it’s about the community, a safe place with a great quality of life.”
“We can attract the right doctors that will stay here and it’s also about finding their spouses the right employment as well.”
He expects the Chamber to announce the successful applicant for the Community Navigator position very soon.
