The event is normally held in July as part of Seafest, but it was cancelled this year due to a lack of interest.
The Parade of Lights draws many to the Yarmouth Waterfront as fishing boats and recreational craft try and out do each other in a friendly competition. Vessels are decorated with colourful Christmas lights.
Some shoot off fireworks.
Yarmouth town councillor Steve Berry is trying to organize the event for the last Saturday of this month, August 31, but as of Friday, August 23, only one person expressed an interest in registering a boat.
“If any boats or people are interested either financially or as a volunteer to do some lights, if this is going to happen we just need to get people on board.”
Many people post to social media that they were disappointed the Parade of Lights didn’t happen during Seafest.
“”We have a great community here and although there are times you get complaints about things, at the end of the day, it’s about what people are willing to give back. If people don’t volunteer and step up, then things don’t happen.”
Time is critical, so if you want to help out or register a boat for the Parade the Parade of lights you can contact Councillor Berry on his Facebook page.
