Another odour is being reported in a South Shore town as residents in Shelburne plug their noses when near the wastewater treatment plant.
People took to social media to complain about the strong smell around Carleton and Prince Streets and towards Roseway Hospital.
CAO Darren Shupe says the facility has gone through significant upgrades over the past year and they’re still working to get it fully commissioned.
“There’s a gas monitoring system as well as a geotube system which separates solids and liquids that we need to get running fully up to 100 per cent to get some of those concerns dealt with properly and have the plant running at its full capacity,” he said.
The new upgrades are part of a new Ultraviolet system.
Shupe says the hot, dry weather is also contributing to the strength of the smell and says he’s hopeful the issue will be resolved in a few weeks.
In the meantime, a truck will be brought in to remove waste materials from the plant to try and improve the situation.
Other areas including Liverpool and Lunenburg are also trying to fix smells in part of their towns.
