Karen Mattatall also hopes the interim CEO will recognize the serious state of health care access.
Janet Davidson, former Deputy Minister of Health for Alberta and former CEO of Trillium Health Centre, will fill the position while the NSHA searches for a permanent candidate.
Mattatall says, for her, acknowledgement of the problem is the first step.
“And how do we collectively get together to fix that. Because when I read online that we have a great emergency program across the province…well that’s wonderful if you have access to it.”
Mayor Mattatall also thinks Davidson should sit down and talk to some of the key people, like Dr. Gary Ernst, the new president of Doctors Nova Scotia.
“He seems to really be putting forward some ideas that probably that would be very helpful. He speaks about the model that they use in Liverpool which is a comprehensive model. i guess different than the collaborative one.”
Davidson will step in after the current president and CEO, Janet Knox, steps down at the end of this month.
