Kayakers will make a splash this weekend in Shelburne.
The Shelburne Kayak Festival began in 2012 and provides instructional and social events at the Islands Provincial Park.
There are also events that will take kayakers to Birchtown Bay and Lockeport Beach.
Chair of the Board of Directors, Andrew Steffensen, says there is something for beginners or intermediate kayakers.
“We have guided tours, clinics like stand up paddling basics and different strokes for different folks, we do a guided paddle through Birchtown Bay from the park and an introduction to tidal currents out of Port Clyde.”
Registration is closed for this year’s festival, with more than 40 people participating.
Steffensen says the festival helps bring people to the area to learn how to kayak.
“We’ve had people from the Northeastern States, like Maine and New Hampshire and all over the province and even other parts of Canada like Ontario and Quebec. It brings a lot of people, we think, to the area which adds to the economic success of Shelburne.”
The three-day adventure begins Friday morning.
