A year-long investigation by Department of Fisheries and Oceans officers from the Meteghan detachment has resulted in several charges.
Spokesperson Noel d’Entremont says four individuals from Digby County were charged in Digby provincial court and one person in Yarmouth provincial court on August 8 with a total of 11 violations under the Federal Fisheries Act.
“It relates to a year-long investigation that began following an inspection at a fish plant in New Edinburgh in August of 2018.”
d’Entremont says during that inspection 120 crates of lobster were seized with an approximate value of $50,000.
He says Fisheries and Oceans Canada take regulations related to the harvesting, buying and selling and processing of fish and seafood very seriously.
