In what could be described as a scene from a reality cop show, two men are facing a number of charges relating to an incident yesterday near Hebron.
It began as a routine traffic stop after an RCMP officer, patrolling Highway 101, noticed a speeding vehicle with three men inside and pulled it over near Exit 34.
Cpl. Jennifer Clarke says the officer, who was alone, noticed grounds for an impaired driving investigation and that’s when a struggle began.
“The struggle occurred both on the shoulder of the road where the vehicles were stopped and also it spilled out, at one point, right in the middle of the highway. The other men who were in the vehicle both got out of the truck and one was interfering with the police officer’s attempt to handcuff the driver.”
The RCMP officer called for assistance and other members in the area responded immediately.
The 38-year old driver from Yarmouth was eventually handcuffed and faces charges of Speeding and Driving While Suspended, Assaulting a Peace Officer, Resisting Arrest, Failing to Comply with a Breath Demand, and Impaired Driving.
The 26-year old passenger who was interfering with the arrest is from Yarmouth County and faces a charge of Obstruction.
Both men are scheduled to appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court on September 16.
The third man was not charged.
