The Yarmouth and Area Chamber of Commerce (YACC) has received additional support for its Community Navigator position.
The successful candidate will be responsible for helping with the recruitment and retention of physicians to the region.
President Angie Green says the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation (YHF) has confirmed funding of $150,000.
“For the next three years of $50,000 a year which is great. We’ve been working with them and they’ve been very informative and helpful.”
Greene also says the Municipality of Barrington have been very supportive and encouraging and have provided $10,000 for this fiscal year and will consider funding for the position for the next two years.
The chair of the YHF says they are pleased to support an initiative to assist with bringing new doctors and specialists to the area.
The Foundation will provide $50,000 a year over three years to the YACC.
Dr. Harold Cook says the Foundation has always been very interested in the optimal health care service from the Yarmouth Regional Hospital and have supported doctor recruitment efforts in the past.
“But this was a new venture that caught our attention. A number of board members have been expressing an interest that we should be doing more towards physician recruitment and retention. This program seemed to be right in line in terms of where we should be lending our support.”
Greene says the deadline for applications for the Community Navigator job was last Friday (July 19)and the selection has been narrowed down to 10. Interviews are expected to begin in two weeks.
The town of Yarmouth, the municipalities of Yarmouth and Argyle and the province are also supporting the project with funding.
