Argyle-Barrington MLA Chris d’Entremont has announced his retirement from the legislature.
He is one of several MLAs who have put their names in for the upcoming federal election.
d’Entremont says he will finish his 16 year career on July 31st.
“Ultimately, there’s a nomination meeting that still has to happen in Argyle-Barrington and I thought I would at least help shepherd that through. There’s going to be a big meeting next Thursday night and I think any time after that I’m clear to move on to being the candidate for West Nova.”
He was asked what he remembers the most about his time.
“It’s been an absolute dream to represent the people of Argyle-Barrington. It started off as a very small constituency and became much larger as boundaries changed…but I think it’s just the friendships that I’ve made, the people that I’ve known, the kitchens that I’ve sat in, the discussions that I’ve had, and the help that I’ve been able to provide to those people.”
First elected in 2003, he has served as Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Acadian Affairs, Health, Community Services, Minister responsible for the Youth Secretariat and Chair of the Senior Citizens’ Secretariat and briefly as the interim Minister of Finance, and, most recently as the Progressive Conservative House Leader.
