Yarmouth Fire Hall
Yarmouth Town Council has approved a new air cleaning system for the Yarmouth Fire Department.
The 2 systems being looked at were very similar in price but Chief John Verrall tells Y95 News that one did everything the department was looking for when it comes to making the building safe for the personnel.
“It’s for the bay area of the fire department. The idea is that we want to clean the air because there’s a lot of off-gassing from different material, stuff like the bunker gear, the equipment you use on the trucks, the trucks themselves, and there’s also the truck exhaust. So the air cleaning system would take all those contaminants out of the air and put better air back in.”
The other system was the type many people familiar with garages are would recognize, where hoses connect to vehicle exhaust pipes to vent the carcinogens to the outside but it didn’t clean the other parts of the hall.
“The other system is “direct source. It takes the exhaust direct from the truck tailpipes but it doesn’t clean the actual air around the trucks and the off-gassing from all the equipment and stuff. The rest of the bay area wouldn’t be clean.”
The system council approved would make the entire hall safer for people.
