A delay in edible cannabis regulations means customers won’t see any product on the shelves when it becomes legal later this year.
Finance Minister Karen Casey expects it will take 60 days for producers to generate stock.
“And I said this when we gave the mandate to NSLC, Nova Scotians need to know and not expect that edibles will be on the shelves in October because they will not.”
NSLC Cannabis Stores also need renovations to accommodate the new product.
Casey says equipment such as refrigerators and displays will need to be installed to accommodate the sale of edibles once they come online in October.

However, she says the province is still waiting for the federal government to draft final regulations before they begin those renovations, and redesigning the physical space is just the beginning.
“NSLC staff, they will need to get the training on the product and the packaging of the product and the availability. All of those things will have to happen once those federal regulations are finalized.”
Casey says the province has to work with the federal framework.
And as much as they would like to have edibles to sell in October, they need to wait for the federal regulations to be in place.
