Nine thousand pounds of fresh halibut was seized recently in Shelburne County.
DFO Supervisor Noel d’Entremont says the seizures were the result of two separate inspections and investigations in May and June by Department of Fisheries and Oceans.
“By our Fisheries Officers from the Barrington Passage Conservation and Protection Detachment led to two different investigations and totalling halibut seizures of 9000 pounds valued at approximately fifty-one thousand dollars”
He says the halibut was not reported to DFO as per licence conditions and regulations.
“The halibut fishery is a very lucrative fishery. Our Fisheries Officers are going to be present in the fishery throughout the summer.”
d’Entremont says one investigation also led to the seizure of a truck and trailer.
He says the investigations are ongoing and no further information will be provided at this time.
