A program at the Yarmouth Fire Department is being replaced.
For years, the department has kept keys for many buildings in the town so that they can gain access in the case of a fire or other emergency after hours.
Chief John Verrall says it’s being phased out and the department is giving key lock boxes to businesses and organizations to replace it.
He says the new program will save crucial time when arriving at the scene.
“It’s a program that allows us to get to the scene faster so we can do a size up. Instead of searching for the key here and then getting on the truck, we can just get right get on the truck and go. The lock box number for the particular building will be on the truck. The guys will look at it, get the key and go in.”
The current key system will be phased out over the summer months with a firm end date of July 31st.
Any businesses and organizations wishing to take part in the Lock Box program may contact Chief Verrall to sign up or ask further questions. 902-742-7411
