Work is coming along nicely at the new Yarmouth Elementary School, which will replace Yarmouth Central School and the former South Centennial School.
Steve Stoddart, director of operations for the Tri-County Regional Centre for Education, says construction is on schedule.
“Actually, next week we’ll be starting to put some of our staff in on the upper level. We’ll be doing like the cleaning and waxing of the floor using our products. It’s going on very well.”
Virtually every space in the school will be used as a learning environment.
Stoddart says the the key design concept of the school is an integrated arts and science studio and the public will have a chance to see the design for themselves.
“There’s a lot of work to be done so the teachers and staff can start coming in, probably mid-August is the plan right now, but I’m sure at some point in time there will be an official opening so everyone can come in and see the school.”
The gymnasium of the former Yarmouth Junior High School is being incorporated into the design of the school.
Yarmouth Elementary School, which is scheduled to open this September, will also have the pre-primary program on site.
