A councillor for the Municipality of Yarmouth says facilities at a popular local beach need to be upgraded.
Patti Durkee, who represents the district where Port Maitland Provincial Beach is located, says the change rooms and toilets are outdated.
“They’re old outhouses; so I would like to see a more modern facility with flush toilets and some running water. People do not want to be going to the bathroom in old outhouses anymore.”
Durkee says the Municipality of Yarmouth approached the province last year and was told the matter would be considered in the budget.
“This is 2019 and it’s time we moved to some more modern facilities. It’s a year later and we’ve heard absolutely nothing, so we would like to get a meeting together to discuss it.”
Durkee says staff have told the municipality that attendance at Port Maitland Beach Park has increased substantially in the past couple of years.
She says council hopes to meet with department officials soon to have the issues addressed.
