The Canadian women’s curling team knocked off Switzerland 6-4 Wednesday at the World Junior Curling Championship in Liverpool.
Selena Sturmay’s team never trailed, handing the Swiss their first loss of the tournament.
Canada stole two in the third, scored two more in the sixth, stole one in the seventh and added another single in the ninth end.
Sturmay says it’s a key victory to stay in the playoff hunt.
“It definitely gives us a huge advantage putting that win underneath our belts,” says Sturmay.
“We had a couple of unfortunate losses early on but I think we’re improving with every single game which helps us a lot. We’re looking to carry that forward and hopefully pull out a couple more wins.”
Canada sits in a three-way tie for third place at 4-2. Switzerland and China lead with 5 and 1 records.
Sturmay’s team play Norway at 9 a.m. this morning and the Chinese at 7 p.m tonight.
On the men’s side, Tyler Tardi’s squad scored four in the 10th end to rally past Germany 8-6 last night.
The win moves Canada to 5-2 and in a three-way tie for second place.
They meet Sweden at 2 p.m. at Queens Place Emera Centre.
