Nova Scotia RCMP are asking the public to let them know when they’re tucked in for the night.
The 9 p.m. Routine campaign encourages people to secure their vehicles and homes at 9:00pm each night.
Corporal Jennifer Clarke says by removing valuables, turning on outside lights, locking cars, garage doors and houses residents can protect themselves against crimes of opportunity.
“And once you have completed your 9 p.m. routine, we’re asking people to tweet us @RCMPNS or find us on Facebook and let us know you’ve completed your routine. Hopefully, people will get on board with that.”
A number of break-ins have recently been reported throughout Lunenburg and Queens counties.
Clarke says the program is a fun way to engage with police and keep safety front of mind.
“We’re definitely asking people to get on board with that. We’ll certainly tweet back at you. We love to see pictures of animals. If you want to send us a cool picture of someone in your family who’s helping lock things up for the night.”

The 9 p.m. Routine has spread across North America since being created in Florida in 2017.
Clarke says taking these simple precautions can greatly reduce the chances of having your property stolen.
