The government of Stephen McNeil is again being told to come clean on how much taxpayers money is being out into the ferry service between Nova Scotia and Maine.
Bay Ferries plans to operate the Cat ferry between Yarmouth and Bar Harbor for the upcoming tourism season.
But, U-S Customs and Border Protection expects the company to pay for five to seven additional customs agents to staff the terminal and pay for upgrades.
The PC’s transportation critic, Pat Dunn tells Acadia News the government has even ignored Nova Scotia’s FOIPOP Commissioner.
“It all comes down to one word…transparency. It’s clear as mud. They should be up front, let the public know.
Catherine Tully issued a report last year recommending the province disclose all information about the 2016 management fee paid to Bay Ferries.
Dunn says they expect the Liberal government to protect taxpayers and at the very least be up front about how much is being invested into the service.
“But, whatever’s going to happen, we should be aware of it, exactly the amount of dollars that we may have to spend to make sure that this service is going to be available.”
He also says the PC’s would like to see a different ferry, one that would accommodate more trucks.
