Provincial Labour and Advanced Education Minister Labi Kousoulis has accepted the recommendations of the Minimum Wage Review Committee to increase the minimum wage rate.
As of April 1st, it will be 11-dollars-and-55-cents.
Jordi Morgan of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, tells Acadia News while it may seem like a small increase, it will have a significant impact on small business.
“CPP goes up, EI payments, all the other payroll taxes go up along with it, so it’s not just a wage increase in isolation”
The minimum wage will increase by approximately 55-cents each year for the next three years.
Then starting on April 1st, 2022, the rate be adjusted annually with inflation.
Nova Scotia currently offers the lowest minimum wage of Canada’s ten provinces.
