The president and CEO of Rodd Hotels and Resorts says he’s excited to be reopening the Colony Harbour Inn.
Mark Rodd tells CJLS News the Colony has special meaning to him and it was painful for him to have to close it down in 2011, two years after the Cat ferry ended its service.
“It was my second management job, in 1997 to 1999. My mind always thought that, if business warranted it, that we would look at it again and we would re-open it.”
Mayor Pam Mood tells CJLS News she’s thrilled with the news.
“I think that everything had to fall in place, the ferry, we have taken care of Hawthorne Street there, the downtown is vibrant, all the pieces have come together.”
Meanwhile, the MLA for Yarmouth, Zach Churchill says the investment by Rodd Resorts in its two Yarmouth properties shows that investments by the province into ferry service really pay off.
“We’ve had two of our best tourism seasons on record. I’m really proud to be part of a government that’s invested in our tourism infrastructure, that is helping grow that sector.”
Rodd’s is also continuing with its $2 million dollar renovation and upgrade to the Grand Hotel and Convention Centre.
