An annual award, given out at the Maple Grove Girls Basketball Home Tournament, and which was awarded to a member of each team in attendance, is the Russell Cushing Memorial Award.
Russell Cushing was a member of our coaching team last year and is the father to one of Maple Grove’s current players. He was just beginning to get involved in coaching girls’ basketball. He showed a genuine love for the sport and always had a positive comment on how things were going. His sudden and unexpected passing on January 24, 2018 was a shock to all, including our basketball family.
The Russell Cushing Award is given to players that demonstrate exemplary team spirit, sportsmanship, and a love of basketball. The awards were presented on Saturday to the following players, in memory of a father, friend and teammate, Russell Cushing.
