Rodd Hotels and Resorts are assessing whether or not to re-open Yarmouth’s Colony Harbour Inn.
The property has been vacant since the ferry stopped running after the 2009 season.
Mark Rodd, President and CEO of Rodd Hotels and Resorts, said they had to close the Colony when the ferry was shut down but that, if demand was there, they would look at re-opening the property.
Rodd tells CJLS that, with the success of the new ferry, that is what they are doing.
“We’re assessing the the viability of that operation and looking at the cost that it would entail to open that property back up again”
He says that the numbers since the ferry restarted have him optimistic about re-opening.
“We’ve had a great season here and I know that next year looks just as promising, so I’m optimistic that work will begin on that hotel”
Rodd is also optimistic about of the change in the ferry’s destination from Portland to Bar Harbour, Maine.
“The last number of years have been very, very good for us. This year was actually better than the year before. Bar Harbour is a great destination. There’s a large number of people that go in to Bar Harbour in that summer season. The ferry’s had success there before, so I’m looking forward to that crossing”
Rodd says that, as soon as they make their decision, they will let the community know.
