Fire Prevention Week begins Sunday.
The theme this year is ‘Look, Listen, Learn. Be Aware. Fire Can Happen Anywhere.’
The Yarmouth Fire Department kicks it off this Friday evening with the annual torch light parade.
Fire Prevention Officer Stewart Deveau says it’s a long-time annual traditional enjoyed by all ages.
“We start at 8 o’clock at the corner of Main and Argyle with trucks and members then along Main, up Porter Street to the fire hall where we’ll have refreshments.”
Deveau says all fire departments in the Tri-Counties have been invited to participate.
The firefighters carry glow sticks instead of torches and the sticks are passed out to children along the route.
Normally the Yarmouth Fire Department has an educational display at the Yarmouth Mall but all available space has been rented.
Deveau says that’s great news for the mall and he thanks the Yarmouth Mall for all their support over the years.
