This is National Mental Illness Awareness Week in Canada.
The Canadian Alliance of Mental Health and Mental Illness along with Bell ‘Let’s Talk’ will educate Canadians about the realities of mental illness, and advocate for accessible mental health services.
Every year the campaign hand picks 5 Canadians from across the country to represent mental illness.
Julie Keddy of Digby is one of 5 Canadians chosen to lobby the federal government for better access to mental health services for all Canadians.
She tells CJLS News it needs to be a national conversation, particularly about smaller communities.
“Rural areas across Canada face a lake of access to services with those living with a mental illness.”
Keddy says Mental Awareness Week is important but she says the conversation that must continue until services are available for all Canadians suffering mental illness.
She will speak on Parliament Hill this week.
