A Yarmouth woman has pleaded guilty to an animal cruelty charge.
In a release, the Nova Scotia SPCA says 42-year-old Nicole Jacquard pled guilty in Yarmouth provincial court on Monday.
She was charged under a section of the Criminal Code and a section of the Animal Protection Act of Nova Scotia.
The provincial charge was dropped with Jacquard’s guilty plea under Criminal Code charge.
The SPCA says its officers initially responded in September 2017, when a complaint was lodged regarding Jacquard’s abuse to her dog and its puppies.
Jo-Anne Landsburg, the SPCA’s Chief Provincial Inspector says it was a difficult case given the cruel and deliberate actions which led to the death of two puppies.
She says they’re pleased with the court’s decision to place a lifetime ban on Nicole Jacquard prohibiting her from owning any animal.
Jacquard was also sentenced to two years probation.
The mother dog has been adopted into a new home.
