As Nova Scotia’s PC Party prepares to elect their new leader, their interim leader is getting ready to step out of the limelight.
Karla MacFarlane has been the helm since former leader Jamie Baillie resigned in January.
MacFarlane says it was an honour to be chosen by her caucus to lead, and she has some advice for whoever takes over.
“It might not be the most popular thing to say, don’t compromise your integrity, always speak the truth. It’s a lot easier going forward that way.
She says it was a learning experience.
“I think what I will take away from this, is that, you know what, I’m good at balancing things. I think that I’ve learned that, oh my gosh right now I’m doing double-duty, but I can do that.”
MacFarlane is grateful for the support of her caucus and feels whoever wins the leadership will give the Liberals a run for their money in the next election.
She says the party is well placed to defeat the government after increasing their membership by 400 percent during the leadership race.
The PC’s will hold that election at their convention in Halifax October 26 and 27.
