Ratepayers are urged to attend a meeting tonight regarding plans for a new fire hall for the Eel Brook and District Fire Department.
The public consultation takes place this evening at 7 p.m. at le Club Acadien in Sainte Anne du Ruisseau.
Eel Brook fire chief Jonathon LeBlanc tells CJLS News the current building was originally constructed in the 1950’s and it no longer meets the needs of the department or the community.
“It’s been through many renovations and it’s starting to show some pretty bad signs of wear and tear. We’ll be forced to put up a new hall in the next few years regardless. There’s no meeting room. It’s basically just four bays for trucks to park in.”
LeBlanc says the budget for a new fire hall has been estimated at around $1 million with the department planning to do as much fundraising as possible.
He says they’ll also apply for any grants that may be available.
LeBlanc says three possible sites are being considered, two being close to the highway 103 intersection in Belleville and the other site in Tusket.
He says input from ratepayers is important.
