Still no word on what’s causing bacteria in waters off two popular Yarmouth County beaches.
Both Mavillette and Port Maitland beaches remain closed for swimming after the bacteria was found through water samples done by the Nova Scotia Lifesaving Society earlier this month.
The Department of Lands and Forestry stepped in, and conducted a helicopter search of the area last week.
Bruce Nunn with the department says they conducted more water quality tests as well.
“Similar to the ones we’ve done over the past few weeks, just to confirm if the issue is present or not. We conducted a helicopter survey of the area, and are continuing their ongoing research to determine a possible source.”
He says they haven’t nailed down the exact cause, but they are continuing their research.
The discovered bacteria is enterococci, which is found in mammal fecal matter.
