Training camp is well underway for the Yarmouth Junior A Mariners.
Exhibition games start on Wednesday night, as the Mariners travel to face the South Shore Lumberjacks.
Head Coach and General Manager Laurie Barron says he’ll dress mostly rookies for that game.
“After that, we’ll get things trimmed down to around 24 players. Then we’ll play more exhibition games, and then it’s go time.”
Barron says they received word over the weekend that defenseman Zack Bennett and forward Logan Timmons, both in QMJHL camps, would be joining the club.
Barron says having Timmons back is huge.
“I didn’t know if we’d see him back this year at all. He had a great camp with Acadie-Bathurst. I was excited when I got the phone call that he was coming back. Anyone who watched Logan knows he had a heck of a rookie season last year. We expect big things from him.”
He says he likes what he’s seeing so far in camp.
The first round of cuts from training camp have been made.
