A new crib wharf is on the way for Upper Point La Tour.
It’s part of last weeks’ announcement of $42 million dollars in federal funding earmarked for Nova Scotia’s small craft harbours.
MP for South Shore-St.Margaret’s MP Bernadette Jordan says $13.9 million of that money will be spent in her riding.
Jordan made the announcement today at the Upper Port La Tour wharf.
She says this is essential infrastructure for the fishing industry.
“It’s like I always say, this is like my oil patch, or my auto industry, or my aerospace industry. Fisheries is critical to the economy of Nova Scotia.”
Jordan says over the past three years, there’s been over $30 million dollars invested in small craft harbours and this is another nice chunk of change.
“Some of these wharves are in desperate shape and they’re so critical to our industry. Unfortunately, it’s not going to be enough to do everything we need done, but it is a starting point.”
Jordan says the federal government owns the infrastructure around these wharves and they need to be responsible for it.
Happy to be in Upper Port Latour today to announce $13.9 million investment in Small Craft Harbours. We recognize the value of SCH to our coastal communities. #Fisheries #SmallCraftHarbours #ItsAGoodDay pic.twitter.com/vP9O0ffOrC
