Despite the rain, this has been a long dry spell with municipal units reaching out to help residents who rely on well water.
Warden Leland Anthony says today’s rain was welcome but much more is needed.
He says the Municipality of Yarmouth and Th’YARC have come together to provide non-potable water at the former Arcadia School.
“They put in another filter and installed an ultraviolet light.”
Warden Leland Anthony says seniors or disabled persons in need can contact the municipality’s senior safety co-ordinator Doris Landry.
She can be reached at 902-881-4099
Anthony also says many people learned from experiences two years ago when the region experienced a severe dry spell.
“I’m impressed with residents. A lot of people told me they started weeks ago to conserve water. They started taking their laundry to the laundromat and I talked to other people who started to buy water in large containers three weeks ago.”
He says the Municipality of Yarmouth also has a water supply upgrade program which to helps make financing available to remediate problems with water supplies from wells.
Mariners Centre is offering hot showers Monday to Friday 8 to 4.
People can also fill their water containers at the Zamboni fill station at the back of Mariners Centre.
