The federal government is investing nearly $8.5 million in small craft harbours in West Nova.
The announcement was made yesterday morning by West Nova MP Colin Fraser at the Dennis Point Wharf in Lower West Pubnico on behalf of the Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard.
Fraser tells CJLS News the $8.35 million is in addition to approximately $2 million in existing funding that will be used for projects throughout the region.
“one my key priorities upon being elected was to get more money invested in small craft harbours. We know it’s the backbone of our economy in south western Nova Scotia and having safe and accessible harbour infrastructure is the key. We know there’s other projects to get done too and we’re working away to get them done.”
The projects include new containment cells for disposal of dredged materials in Chegoggin and Pinkney’s Point, construction of a new wharf at Dennis Point, repairs to damaged steel piles at the Wedge Point Wharf in Wedgeport and the installation of a float system in Meteghan.
Argyle-Barrington MLA was also at the announcement.
