Registration has opened for Nova Scotia’s Progressive Conservative party’s leadership convention.
It takes place at the Halifax Exhibition Centre October 26 and 27.
There are five candidates running: MLA John Lohr, MLA Tim Houston, Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market executive director Julie Chaisson, MLA Elizabeth Smith-McCrossin and Cape Breton Regional Municipality Mayor Cecil Clarke.
Argyle-Barrington MLA Chris d’Entremont, co-chair of the Leadership Selection Committee, tells Acadia News they’re expecting a medium to large convention.
“Where people who are interested in the leadership in our party will come out and cast their ballot, and of course there is an option to vote by mail for those who can’t attend the convention. We do expect 1500 people or more to show up.”
d’Entremont says this leadership convention is also important as many people believe they’ll not only be electing the next party leader, but also electing the next premier.
Former leader Jamie Baillie resigned in January following an investigation into allegations of inappropriate behaviour.
