As RCMP try to grapple with the large number of fatal and serious collisions on provincial roads and highways throughout Nova Scotia this summer, another statistic is also raising alarm bells.
In just the past week or so, six people have died in collisions; four of those involved motorcycles.
RCMP Corporal, Dal Hutchinson, says there’s not one main factor that contributed to those fatal collisions.
“In some situations motorists are distracted, they pull out in front of a motorcycle, they pull out to pass a motorcycle and come far too close to them,” says Hutchinson.
But for the most part, many motorcyclists are putting safety first garnering the respect of Nova Scotia Mounties.
“I have to applaud motorcycle riders here in Nova Scotia, you see an increase in the number of them wearing high visibility vests, I’ve even seen them with helmets that are high visibility,” notes Hutchinson. “They’re making efforts to make sure that they are safe when out on the roads.”
At times, wildlife and weather conditions play a factor as well in many motorcycle related collisions.
