Mayor Pam Mood says town council wants to ensure that Yarmouth is an accessible community.
She says to that end, a committee will be formed with terms of reference for a policy that will guide an accessibility committee to be tabled for council’s next meeting for approval.
Mayor Mood says it will be a well-rounded committee.
“The committee will be comprised of up to 11 members. We’ll have six persons with disabilities, two community members, that could include parents and advocates and up to three members of council.”
She says the committee duties include advising council on issues like reviewing and monitoring existing and proposed town by-laws to promote full participation of persons with disabilities.
