Nova Scotia’s Opposition House Leader expects the Liberals to put a real spin on the upcoming speech from the throne.
The second session of the 63rd sitting of the legislature takes place September 6, with the Lieutenant Governor delivering the throne speech at 2pm that day.
Argyle-Barrington MLA Chris d’Entremont says the government will try to “change the channel.”
“We’re not going to allow them to do that. The new throne speech will talk about all the things they want to do. It’s sort of an election document part 2. They’ll probably try to convince Nova Scotians that everything is fine, you know, look at how good we are.”
He says Nova Scotians won’t fall for that message.
d’Entremont says the PC’s will again make this session about health care with questions to the government.
“Why all our emergency rooms are closed of a regular basis now ? Why Nova Scotians don’t have doctors ? Why people are waiting for cancer treatment ?
The province is also expected to reveal the results of the independent review into forestry practices.
d’Entremont says he doesn’t expect much action from the Liberals, saying they’re good at studying things and that’s about it.
Meanwhile Education and Early Childhood Development Minister and Zach Churchill says the government wants to talk about its many accomplishments, like its focus on education.
“We’ve increased the overall budget by about 30 percent since we’ve been in office, education reform has been a priority.
The MLA for Yarmouth says they’ll continue to bring in new supports into our classrooms coming in September.
” Behavioural supports, autism supports, speech and language pathologists and for the first time we’re also going to have child and youth care practitioners and parent navigators.”
