A Halifax man has been charged with the murder of a young Lunenburg County man.
Rae’heem Downey, 20, has been charged with first degree murder and breach of probation after the shooting death of Jamie Lee Bishop.
The 21-year-old was walking with a female companion on Hornes Road in Eastern Passage at approximately 12:45 a.m. June 18 when a passing car stopped and someone in the vehicle shot Bishop.
He was rushed to hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators with the Homicide Unit of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division arrested Downey yesterday morning without incident.
“This investigation has been ongoing since the early morning on June 18th in Eastern Passage when this horrific incident took place, our investigators with help of the public have come to the point where they were able to lay the charges in this investigation,” says Corporal Dal Hutchinson, media relations with RCMP.
Downey made a brief appearance in Dartmouth Provincial Court this morning.
The session was adjourned by request of the defense and he has been remanded until his next appearance September 5 where a date for a preliminary hearing will be set.
No request for bail has been made and Downey is being represented by a private lawyer.
RCMP say the investigation is continuing.
