It doesn’t look like the Town of Yarmouth will amend a bylaw to allow residents to use their own front yard storage units for solid waste.
Right now garbage, recyclables and green carts are only permitted to be contained in a side yard or backyard and must be brought to the curb on collection days.
Mayor Pam Mood said council sought input from the public and the matter heads to second reading at the next council meeting on August 9.
“We will discuss it further to see which way we want to go. Right now it looks as if council is going to keep the bylaws that we have and not allow those in the front yards.”
She says we have to be mindful of our neighbours saying the storage units kept out front of properties can be unsightly.
Mood says the challenge would be ensuring that everyone followed the same standards.
“We’re in town and we live in close proximity to our neighbours and everyone doesn’t take care of their compost and their garbage the way it should be taken care of.”
