A meeting is scheduled for Wednesday to discuss fire dispatch service.
The town of Yarmouth is still planning to replace the four dispatch positions at the Yarmouth Fire Department with a less expensive service provider.
Wednesday’s meeting will include fire chiefs and deputies from Yarmouth, Clare, Argyle and Barrington.
Jim Roper of the Fire Service Association of Nova Scotia will be in attendance.
Meanwhile, Lynn Seeley, president of Local 2094 of the International Association of Firefighters, says the four dispatchers continue working, not knowing when they’ll be laid off by the town.
“There has been zero information transferred to the union local or to the dispatchers. We have had no news or information whatsoever. We’re waiting for this information. This is important information and it’s public information. We should be part of the process. we shouldn’t be left waiting out here.”
The town was presented with a proposal from some other municipal units for maintaining dispatch service in Yarmouth.
But Seeley says they’ve heard nothing from the town other than that they are reviewing the document.
The meeting is scheduled to take place Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. at the Rotary Centre at the Hebron Recreation Complex.
