A Lunenburg County woman is counting her lucky stars after almost being involved in a head-on collision Friday evening.
Dianna Cunning tells Acadia News she was driving eastbound on Highway 103 around supper time when an an oncoming car crossed over the yellow centre line, side-swiping her vehicle.
She doesn’t know how, but she managed to swerve out of the way onto the shoulder, preventing a possible fatal collision.
“Strangers, both of them unknown to each other, pulled over immediately in front of me and came running back to see if I was okay, because they saw the whole thing; the woman behind me also had to swerve,” says Cunning, who was shaken following the near head-on collision.
Cunning says it happened between Exits 10 and 11 (Blockhouse / Mahone Bay / Lunenburg) at a time when traffic was very busy along the highway; she says her life literally flashed before her eyes.
“It was so, so busy, I was pulled over on the side of the road for close to two hours because I couldn’t drive, I was dealing with the cops, I was dealing with the insurance, dealing with the witnesses, I just couldn’t get back on the highway because I was too scared, it was just awful,” says Cunning.
The other driver fled the scene and Cunning says RCMP have launched an investigation.
Cunning says had the car hit any closer, both she and her 15-year-old son could have been killed.
She’s asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision to please notify police.
