Yarmouth’s Ryan Graves is getting ready for NHL training camp in September.
The 23 year old defenseman just signed a one year contract with the Colorado Avalanche, and will be battling for a spot on the team.
Graves says he’s happy to be back with the Avalanche organization.
“Being traded there, I was only there for a month and a bit. It’ll be nice to get a full year in there. I want to get into camp and make a good impression hopefully. We’ll see where it goes from there.”
He was traded to the Avalanche by the New York Rangers during the last trade deadline.
Graves has spent his entire pro-career in the American Hockey League, playing for San Antonio after the trade.
He was drafted by the Rangers in the fourth round of the 2013 entry draft.
Terms of his new deal with Colorado were not disclosed.
Graves was part of the Maritime NHLers 4 Kids event in Digby yesterday, which raised funds for the Clare-Digby Minor Hockey Association.
“There are a lot of events that we do that are for a good cause. This one, we get to meet the kids and see where the money is going firsthand. It makes it real, and it makes it enjoyable.”
Graves says he has fond memories of playing in the Digby Arena as a kid.
