The discovery of possible human remains in the Town of Lunenburg has led to a police investigation.
Lunenburg District RCMP were called to the scene of a construction site yesterday where a glass jar believed to contain human remains was found.
Corporal Jennifer Clarke, media relations with the RCMP says it was found near the water treatment plant by a worker using an excavator.
While moving dirt to one area to another, they uncovered the jar, which appeared to have been there for a significant period of time.
Clarke couldn’t elaborate on what was contained in the jar but she says it was not ashes and they believed it was human.
The remains have been sent to the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Service for examination
The RCMP Southwest Nova Major Crimes Unit is investigating this matter and RCMP Forensic Identification Services also assisted in gathering evidence at the scene.
There’s no word yet on when analysis by the medical examiner may be completed.
