19 year old Hudson Grimshaw-Surette of Yarmouth won the 2018 Sheila Poole 10k in Yarmouth this morning.
He ran the race in 35:23, finishing ahead of Yarmouth’s Bryan Hipson, who had won the race the previous three years.
Grimshaw-Surette, known for his dominance in track-and-field says this was his first time running a 10k race.
“It’s a great local race, it means a lot to a lot of people, and to me. It’s always great to compete around home and it was a lot of fun.”
On the women’s side, 49 year old Denise Robson won her seventh straight Sheila Poole and 12th title overall, finishing with a time of 39:17, just ahead of her daughter Ashley Robson.
Robson says it was her first race in a year.
“I’ve been injured for 11 months. To come out and run the time that I did, and feel good running it, I’m very happy with my time today.”
It was the 20th running of the Sheila Poole 10k, named after the accomplished runner who passed away of cancer in 1997.
